Baseball Pitcher Technique
The most overlooked aspect of pitching in baseball is keeping the
throwing arm and shoulders back until after the hips rotate to uncoil
the upper body. In every picture below of major league pitchers,
the theme is the same - all have their shoulders closed
even after they have planted their stride foot and rotated their
hips forward. This sling-shot action generates power that most kids
are missing.
A common misconception is that the arm throws the ball.
The arm plays a small role - power comes from the rotation of the
core from hips through shoulders. Each pitcher below stays back
as long as possible. If their arm position remains constant through
rotation, they'll still have the L shape and the fingers will be
behind the ball.
