Plain and simple, it shows on the field which kids practice at
home and which do not. Unfortunately, there is only so much practice
time each team can schedule and even less is carried out due to
weather. In a two hour practice, the coaches have to find a way
to work with up to 12 kids or so and the personal one-on-one time
is limited. Parents can make a huge impact on their kids' growth
in the sport by playing catch, working on fielding or pitching,
or taking their child to the batting cages in between scheduled
practice times.
Ideally, what you teach and help your child with is consistent
with good fundamentals and in-line with what your coach wants to
teach, but even if it isn't, doing something is better than doing
nothing at all.
At the very least, parents can help give their kids more
repetitions on the things they learn and do at practice. Play catch
with your kid and work on grounders and pop-ups.
